Gowers, Sir William Richard (1845–1915), British neurologist. Gowers was one of the founders of modern neurology. Early in his career he became interested in the anatomical pathology and diseases of the spinal cord. In 1880 he published a work on diseases of the spinal cord in which he described the tract that now bears his name.
